We use primarily Sterling Silver, Brass, Bronze and Copper for our jewelry. Over time with exposure to air, sweat and body oils, these metals can get dark and dull. Natural patinas can be beautiful, but to keep your pieces as bright as the day you got them, you may need to clean them.
To shine your pieces, use a treated polishing cloth like the Sunshine cloth. To clean heavier tarnish, make a paste out from lemon juice, water, and baking soda; brush on with an old toothbrush and rinse with warm water.
All of our pieces are treated with a thin wax to slow tarnishing, but this wears off over time. For brass, bronze, and copper, keep in mind that humidity, sweat, and other chemicals (such as soaps, lotions and makeup) can turn green and stain the skin. The reaction varies according to individual body chemistry, as some people experience no discoloration. Unless you have metal allergies, this is not harmful to your health and is easily washed off with soap and water.
